Attracting design connoisseurs from across the globe, TRUNK(HOTEL) CAT STREET - the Jingumae, Shibuya outpost of the Japanese boutique hotel group TRUNK, presents a rich programme of artistic initiatives. From temporary exhibitions to an engaging portfolio of artworks on display, the hotel offers the ideal destination for travellers looking for a premium hospitality experience immersed in the creative scene.
Partnering with a diverse range of local artists and global creatives, TRUNK(HOTEL) CAT STREET hosts a rolling programme of exhibitions, installations and pop-up events open to the public and hotel guests. Currently on display is “Ambience in Paper” by Hamadawashi, the Kochi-based family business widely acclaimed for its artisanal mastery in delicate and resilient paper (washi).
Across May and July, TRUNK(HOTEL) CAT STREET will extend this offering with two new exhibitions from Japanese artists, Yuta Mihiri and Ami Otsuka.
EXHIBITION PROGRAMME

Currently on display in the hotel lobby and lounge area is “Ambience in Paper” by Hamadawashi. Owned by brothers Hironao and Osamu Hamada, Hamadawashi is known for its exceptional washi-making mastery, artistic expression, and unique white colour. An integral part of Japanese culture, Washi is recognised for its beauty, durability, and versatility, perfectly offsetting TRUNK’s ambient atmosphere and focus on craftsmanship, culture and modernity. Ambience in Paper will run until mid-July.

TRUNK(HOTEL) CAT STREET has confirmed two upcoming exhibitions, set to accompany Hamadawahi’s showcase. From 22-24th May, graphic designer and artist, Yuta Mihira, presents “SEA” which promises an exploration of personal sensations and memories, all through the lens of the ocean. From 17-19th July, artist Ami Otsuka is confirmed to take over the exhibition space, with works often featuring acrylic paint on canvas, neon hues and abstract painting.
HOTEL ART OFFERINGS

Spotlighting works from notable artists and creatives throughout the hotel spaces and guest rooms, TRUNK(HOTEL) CAT STREET offers the ideal destination for art enthusiasts looking to immerse themselves in Tokyo’s thriving arts culture.
In the Terrace Suite, guests can enjoy work by Satoru Yagata as part of the wider “Capacious” project, which highlights a series of works by Osaka-based artists with disabilities. The Terrace Suite also features ceiling art by Yuko Kitta, an Okinawa-based artist celebrated for works using natural dyeing techniques to depict product life cycles, tracing the journey from birth to nature.
Each Standard Room showcases vintage posters by David Horvitz, previously displayed at the Yvon Lambert Gallery in Paris. Located on the balcony in the Standard+ room, is a vintage David Hockney poster, originally exhibited in 1969 in New York. The poster is accompanied by striking wall art by Michinori Maru which depicts the landscapes of Shibuya, referencing his characteristic misalignment of reality and travel.
